Irish dancing--spinning style

Spinning or Dancing?

As a girl who is not good at dancing, I always quite envy those who can dance well without taking any classes.

No matter how easy the action is, when I perform it the style just changes immediately.

The Irish seem to have no such worries. Observing the celebrations on St. Patrick’s Day, so many Irish people appear to be natural dancers.

The dancing happened quite suddenly. When the dancer on the stage suddenly stopped and began to in an encouraging voice that tempted the listener, I knew something exciting and scary was about to happen.

Unfortunately it was just as I thought. There was a very enthusiastic Irish couple beside me; they warmly invited my boyfriend and me to dance with them.

It was difficult to refuse such kindness. I accepted with a flicker of hope that maybe I would master this dancing since they made it seem so easy on stage.

I was wrong

It didn’t take long for me to realise how wrong I’d been.

When the music began, I couldn’t figure out which foot to move first, so I bumped into the old lady in front of me. Before I could apologise, I bumped into another guy. “Spinning, spinning!”

The kind old lady who was teaching me at the same time kept shouting and proceeded in spinning and bumping people for the next few moments.

My boyfriend and I both laughed, because we were not actually dancing. The chaos continued. I bumped, I spun and I apologised.

When the dance finally ended, the kind old lady praised my “good skill in Irish dancing”. I laughed happily.

Maybe it was just the art of spiralling like a top, in which case even a dancing idiot like me could master it.

london divercity

Long time no uploading, sorry. But it is for our website Londondivercity. This semester we are required to establish a website and I worked with my group mates for this one.

Mainly it is a cultural website for various activities and news. We decide to do one country a month. Last time it was China and now it has moved to Ireland.

I hope you enjoy our work. It is really difficult for us to establish such a website since none of us have experience before. If you think there is anything wrong or needed to be improved, feel free to contact us!

Our website address: www.londondivercity.co.uk
